Marking the anniversary
'Niigata marks one year since big quake' from The Japan Times. And the ground marks the anniversary by giving Ojiya three small reminders:

When I'm not teaching Japanese kids how to speak with a Hull accent, I'm enjoying Japan as much as I can; Hanami in Spring, music festivals in Summer, Koyo in Autumn and snowboarding in Winter.

yeah on the anniversary it dawned on me suddenly (after saturday night's partying) as i was sitting in the niigata eki waiting room for the first (actually-2nd morning train to shibata) i realized that this was the same place we went directly after the ground shook in furamachi. of course all the trains were cancelled and everyone was sitting in the waiting room, watching the big screen of the events.
a year. crazy, eh?
yah sometimes i wonder if i'll be mentally scared for ages from this thing. When I was in Hawaii (no earthquakes there) I was in a parking lot and a truck went by and I still look around like I'm about to get tossed.
Anyway, post those pumpkin pics!
