Tim Lovejoy - Cretin
Someone tell this feckwit that having a critical opinion about another person, from England or not, should NOT be illegal.

In truth I agree with him to a degree... English people are a strange paradox to me. They seem so patriotic, even bullish, about the national team in concept but when they start actually analysing things about the team its as if they were speaking about an embarassing element of the country that just needed to be tolerated and the only way to save face after they lose is to bash them before they do so... I wonder why the British can`t just say `you know what this is my team and represents my country, so they are only flawed when they fail"... David Beckham is the only player in the team who looks like he gives a shit about the idea of the English team and thus should be lauded not kicked in the teeth every chance anyone gets... Maybe thats the reason England wins, its cause they never have a country behind them who aren`t waiting to make excuses about their failing...? Granted Italians are worse sometimes with the rock throwing at the team and all but thats only AFTER the loss... I think in club football public pressure is a good thing but at a national level, what teams need is unbridled fanatical adoration for the team...
Maybe, it happens everywhere and in every team but I notice it the most with English people... Am I wrong Mr.McCloud?
No, you're not wrong (you're touching on the whole "I don't want to be seen backing the loser" complex the English have) but you missed my point. I was referring this quote from the cretin's article:
"...I believe it might be time for us to update the laws on treason to include having a go at England. Football is the most important thing in this country by a mile, so people who criticise the players all the time should be sent to the gallows."
The death penalty for saying "Well, we won but Lampard should be dropped cos he missed all them chances"? Only a fool would entertain the idea.
And the other thing cretinous about that quote is "Football is the most important thing in this country by a mile", but then he went on to show how shallow he was by analysing kit manufacturers.
hmm.
The English are hard to please, aren't they?
Stop calling Mr Lovejoy a cretin!! I quite like him on soccer am. :-)
Point taken Martin, but the press DO push it. It's never just "so and so played badly, take him off" it's always, "this team is shite!" when blatently they are not. But then i am guilty of that, too, so ive rendered this comment void. Ah well.
The portugal game makes me nervous...
No Ryan, you're completely wrong
